It's the simple fact of RIGHT and WRONG.
I have morals and good character and therefore try my best to always do what's RIGHT instead of what's WRONG.
Plus, I paid good money for the best HDTV and the best Progressive Scan dvd player because I am a movie NUT! I want to see AND hear the movies I watch IN THE BEST QUALITY AVAILABLE! Why pay for great equipment only to use sub-standard media on it? I want High Definition and 7.1 sound when I watch my favorite movies! I want the film makers to be paid so they can make MORE movies for ME to watch on my stuff... ;-)

1) Right and wrong. I'd rather do the right thing, abide by copyright laws, and go the legal route (buy/rent) than risk getting caught in a "sweep 'em up" lawsuit when the operators of the illegal sites find themselves in a crackdown.

2) Supporting the artist. If I like the work of the director/actor/whoever, then it makes sense for me to support it by paying for a legal copy. Since plunking down my dollars goes toward the bottom line, that helps to encourage the financial-powers-that-be to make similar movies. They get no such encouragement from people who take the parasite path and do illegal downloads.

3) Quality. By and large, the quality of bootlegs SUCKS compared to the legal copies. Like Cookie said, if I've invested in good-quality equipment to play back the legal copies to their best possible effect, why should I waste that investment by getting crappy pirated DVDs? Or visiting websites and getting crappy downloads that I can only watch on my computer?

Maybe the word illegally would give you a clue. I NEVER buy them at full price though, I wait for them to drop really low in price before I purchase them. If I'm honest, whilst I haven't downloaded them illegally, I have watched copies that have been.... I'm smacking my hands as I'm typing

dude this is the funniest question. the only thing thats free in america is illegal download. You know why people dont buy and download illegaly? because they know if they buy it there gonna watch it once and never watch it again. so you end up paying a lot of money for something that you only watch one. so people download it illegaly and watch it then delete it. easy as that no money involved no hassle. or you can save it on your computer and watch it again.

i don't think it's worth the embarrassment of getting caught. people need to stop being so cheap. i would rather pay the 20.00 than get caught stealing 20.00 worth of crap.

idk about renting or downloading movies, but i would definitely see more movies in the theater if it wasn't always a $60+ night out.
