The answers from many before me suggests we are naive in our understanding of how humanity functions.
EGO amongst world leaders and the rest of us, is the flaw that keeps us from having peace and stability.
Control and power, create stability and a sence of peacefulness for some, while others experience strife. It will always be so. ie..( Dafur cannot be saved if america & the E.U. live like fat cats.)
There is only one way to bring the entire world to a stable and cooperative peace.
The dissolution of all Nations, on the tail of a catastrophic world disaster. Nothing else could ever provide the circimstances needed to bring the people to unite.

Peace and Stability are illusions we create to comfort ourselves. In truth the world and universe has never been peaceful or stable it is a constant cycle of change , some subtle and some violent. You can not change this but you can learn to accept it and in a paradoxical irony create a place of peace and stability in yourself.

By not controlling others. Those who are peaceful will seek each other and find each other. They will eventually provide families and social groups that are also peaceful. This will lead to social institutions and social structures that are designed around the notion of peace rather than conflict.
It may not happen in our lifetimes, but we can be part of the process.

I believe that the root cause of war is the same as the root cause for progress and increasing our knowledge: We see how things are and want to make them better. For those who focus on destruction, the desire for change is channeled through hate and fear. For those who focus on positive improvement, the desire for change is channeled through altruism.
