I was crouching down this morning to get something out from under my sink and felt an extremely intense pain from my tailbone up into my lower back. It was difficult to breath afterwards and I'm in immense pain when I try to bend down now. It even hurts when I walk. I have no basis of comparison as I've never had problems with my back but is it possible I put my back out? If so, what should I do? I've been using a heating pad and took some motrin.

If I were you I would consult a doctor to make sure that you have not torn or seriously damaged and of the structures in your back. With walking around you can damage them even more and with bed rest you just weaken the surrounding tissues even more. I hope that you take my advice and go get checked out.

I suppose you have hurt your back. My chiropractor used to say use ice (cold) at the start to keep down inflammation, then switch to heat after a day or so. I think motrin (anti-inflammatory is a good idea, and rest for a few (2-3) days. Then gradually try to stretch and get strength back. He used to say it would take 2-4 weeks to completely heal.
