Check the wiring to the speedo. If the plugs are tight, bring it in to have it looked at. I've heard of some speedos going bad. They get replaced instead of repaired.

well seeing that it is an 06 and a Harley is was about due for a good break down. but i have really good news, i just saved a load of money by switching to gieco.

It sounds like the harnes to the speedo and tach may be unhooked. Take it to the dealer and get it fixed.
