You can get a special card from one of the cell phone networks like sprint or verizon that allows you to connect to the internet from anywhere. I think it is called a mobile broadband card.

ATT, Sprint, and Verizon are offering a cellular internet service which works in many locations. Each plans to have country wide coverage but none to now.

Check with all three and see which one now offers service where you are most likely to be and this may fit the bill.

You can get a verizon cellular internet account depending on where you live. I know a few guys here in north louisiana that work in the oil field as inspectors and they use verizon here on their laptops. They also have a booster antenna that sits on top of their truck to get better signal, works like a charm. I think they pay like 100/month for unlimited access.

Sprint Mobile Broadband is good for providing Internet everywhere, but it's a little slow. T-Mobile HotSpot is a good complement to it, since it is faster, although it is available in only certain places, like Starbucks and Borders.

Check with a local cell phone retail store for Verizon or nextel. You can search AIR CARD for more information. They plug into the PCMCIA slot and connect via cell towers. It works a decent speeds depending on the level of service you pay for.
