I've always thought it should. If there were ever a referendum on the subject, I would vote in favor of it. Start a petition, I'll sign it. It's the same with voting, you can vote, but not drink?
The govt probably just needs the bodies for voting and service without giving them the same rights.

For a long time the drinking age in some states was 18 but with the greater push for safety on the roads the federal government tied federal highway funds to states moving the age to 21. There is a move to look at this again but safety concerns will probably win out again. You have to remember that the worst driving records are for 16 - 25 year olds so that 18 to 21 year old is going to be right there to be looked at for better safety measures when laws are put in place.

The drinking age was raised through an initiative by MAD. The largest number of drunk driving fatalities occur between 18-21 and thus it has cut down on drunk driving death. Maybe we should make all 18-21 year olds drive with a drill sergeant.

Hold on, been there and experienced that. A soldier can purchase alcohol on base and drink! Yes, it's true. However, your State sets the age requirement for the civilian population. The reason the age requirements are there is due to traffic fatalities.

Good point. And good question.
Maybe the age of the military should be raised to 21.
When I was eighteen I made a lot of foolish decisions. I wouldn't want to put a gun or a beer in my hand.
Yet if a kid wants to fight for our country, he should have the right. And the right to drink.
And if he really wants a beer, Mexico has some flexible laws. And Tecate is a real cheap beer.

YES! 18 is the legal drinking age in most countries. We are so @ss backwards. We put a 16 year old in a 3,000 pound car but heaven forbid an 18 year old drinks a few beers while serving our country.....strange.

This was debated back during the Viet Nam war also. They did lower the drinking age to 18 at that time. But later raised it back up to 21. But yes if you are old enough to die for your Country you are old enough to drink a beer legally.

slippery slope fallacy.
The 21 age for legal drinking age, is supported by studies between the behavior and their tolerance and behavior while under the influence. Those under 21 were prone to:
1) drink more than they should
2) drink till their drunk and then drive
3) die because they drank too much.
