While I'm not a big fan of doing something just because everyone else is doing it, makeup is something that you need to judge based on your community in addition to the values of your family.
Makeup should be reserved for when you're older. It should be something to look forward to, kind of a rite of passage. Sit down with your parents and discuss the subject. You should be able to phase in some cosmetics at different ages, starting right around Middle School.
I don't reccommend that a 12 year old girl go out in full makeup. It just says the wrong thing about you. It says that you don't respect yourself and you're not letting yourself grow up at the normal rate. But lighter makeup can be pretty, if it's done with a light hand.
You first need to take care of your skin. Drinking lots of water and eating a healthy diet are the first steps toward great skin. Then you need to find a cleansing and moisturizing system that works well for your skin type.
Once you have healthy, glowing skin, you can look at what kind of make up will look good based on your skin tone and your age.
Here are some guidelines:
For young skin: lip gloss, gel blush, mascara
For high school: colored eyeshadow, light lipstick, smudgy eyeliner pencil, light foundation/tinted moisturizer
For adult evenings: liquid eyeliner, darker eyeshadow
Ultimately, it's up to the parents to decide how much makeup their daughters should wear. But a daughter who is mature and responsible enough to present her case in a logical manner is more likely to be allowed to do things than someone who pouts or says it's not fair.

No way! I'm older than that and I still don't wear makeup. Let the real you shine through, not some artificially enhance face. Wearing makeup this early on a regular basis will damage your skin PERMANENTLY. Then you'll have to keep caking on the makeup to hide the wrinkles. If you want to look like a 50 year old at the age of 20, then go ahead and wear makeup. It is reasonable to wear makeup for a party or special day, but not on a regular basis.

I don't think a 12 year old should be wearing makeup, such as concealer, lipstick, foundation, etc. I think it's okay to wear a little lip gloss, for fun, but as someone else mentioned, there is no reason for a 12 year old to try to pass themselves off as an adult. Young ladies, enjoy your beautiful skin! Right now, focus on cleansing, toning, and moisturizing your skin. That way, when you do begin to wear makeup, your skin will be beautiful and you won't need much.

nobody will keep u from using makeup but at 12 years old, makeup wont be doing u so much good as u r expecting... your skin is still fresh n using makeup now will make u appear older at a younger age... for more than 50 years ahead u will be using makeup, so if u can delay the start, it will do u lots of good for the future!
.....but it u r really bent on using some kind of makeup, u can always start with some face cream.

Yes... play make-up! But not real make-up... that would be weird. I have a little sister who's 7 and she is always wanting to try my make-up on... so I got her play make-up and it's great! They come in clear colors and really light colors so it doesn't really look like she's wearing anything, but it makes her feel special so I think it's not doing any harm.
Little girls see make-up as a right of passage, so when they start expressing interest I see nothing wrong with allowing them to have some fun with some clear lip gloss and light eye shadow.
Study after study has proven that children's play is really their best efforts at preparation for adulthood... so why suppress it? They will come to view make-up as something bad and forbidden if you make it a big deal about not allowing them to use it.
Now mom's who load their 6 year old's faces up w/ more make-up than the average woman in her twenties wears for beauty pageants... that's a different issue entirely.

Maybe a little gloss and some tinted moisturizer for the inevitable bumps that happen at this age. Nothing too much. Everything is geared toward the younger girls now. Even my 2 yr old know how to apply lip gloss and how to press her lips together to rub it in. Scary stuff man!

No it least not extremem makeup...youthful skin is the most precious so save it and be young as long as you can! I have a 4 year old daughter and she ALWAYS wants to wear my makeup and lipstick and she looks pretty when i let her play with it but it's almost scary cause she looks older!

I knew girls at that age that wore makeup but most didn't. I think is a bit of a tender age to be wearing makeup.I'll say when you're 14 and on, maybe, maybe 13.
But, I could be wrong. It's only my simple judgment.

No, I started wearing make-up at 16 and stopped at 18 because I was peeling and getting acne. So 12 is way too young.
