Every one Thinks Portland should pick Oden just because he is a big man they and harder to come by. You know what they are harder to come by. Portland shouldn't make the same mistake the L.A. Clippers did by drafting Oliwakandi. Its not just him it seems that big men are overrated just because they are big men. You can also look a Detriot's dumb desicinon in 03. They picked Darko Milicic and not Bosh, Melo, Wade, Hinrich. We also can't forget overrated Kwame Brown. So when people say it dosen't mater who is better you should pick the Big man i say bullsh*t. You take the better player because Portland already has 5 big guys anyway.

What everyone is forgeting is that someone had to think theese people were good thats why they got drafted when they did. Are we getting our hopes up or is Oden prooven enough.

Oden has skills, and he is proven enough, you could just tell right off the bat that Michael Olowokandi had very limited skills, he didn't grow up playing basketball, he was just a 7 footer and decided to come to America to play ball a make millions, and thats just what he did, Oden will be in the league for at least 12 years.

Your argument is absurd. Any player you take is a crapshoot to some extent, but Oden and Olowakandi could not be more different. Oden was Indiana's Mr. Basketball in high school and played--very well, I might add--in the NCAA championship game as a freshman. He's a well known quantity. He may not become a superstar, but he's as close to a lock as it gets (Durant is up there, too).

Olowakandi started playing basketball in his teens and played in the mid-major Big West conference. He was drafted almost entirely on potential, as his track record was slight. To pass on Oden because the Blazers already have some big men would be like repeating an earlier mistake the Blazers made when the drafted Sam Bowie over Michael Jordan because they already had Clyde Drexler.

Also, regarding Darco, if they would've picked Bosh, they still would've gotten a big man.

You have to remember that Oliwakandi, Darko, and Kwame didn't come from a big college like Oden did. Oliwakandi came from a small college in CA. Darko came from Europe. Kwame came from high school. The three examples you gave had no real competition while Oden played extremely well against Jokim Noah and Al Horford in the championship game. So basically you're giving a bad comparison.

you are dumb...(I wish I can leave it at that but I will back it up)

HAVE YOU SEEN ODEN PLAY! This guy is not even in top form and is averaging 15, 10 and +50% shooting! not to mention half of the season was with his left hand. And yeah yeah Portland has 5 big guys, 3 of them are ****! Joel is always injured, Magloire is a sloth, and LeFrentz is soft! Ok look back at all the bust big men, but what about Shaq? Dwight Howard? Bill Walton (throw it down big man throw it down)? Hakeem Olajuwan? Patrick Ewing? Tim Duncan? Elton Brand? Yao Ming? They were all first overall picks and were all big men. What do you have to say to that? Oden #1 Durant #2...that's that.

PS I didn't forget Michael Olowokandi, but it seems you forgot how to spell????

The difference between Oden and those other picks you mention is the stage that it was done on. Olawandi went to Pacific, Darko was overseas and Kwame didn't go to college. Oden dominated the Big Ten and went to the championship game. He put up 25 and 12 against Horford and Noah. None of those other guys did that.

Or tracktor Taylor for that, but Oden seems to be a sure thing. Even if he doesnt work out, he is worth more than an equally talented swingman, forward or a guard. Durant is definitely more talented than Oden but its simple Supply and Demand .....
Can the trailblazers really live with giving up a future Shaq or a David Robinson? nothing is guaranteed in the draft as far as talent is concerned but you do bring up a good point.

You make a solid case, but Greg Oden is more athletic than Michael Olowokandi, has more drive to be great than Kwame Brown, and is stronger than Darko Milicic.

not even close to being the same thing, Oden is a sure thing to succeed and Olawikandi was a lot like last years draft not very talented and he was not the consentous number one pick.

As a big Laker fan i am terrified that if the Lakers keep Bynum with all of his "potential" he may turn into another kandiass. Lakers already have one over rated bum in Brown(i cant belive that people still think this jackass still has ANY potential, all because he has a basketball "body".) i hope bynum turns into the player we all hope for, but he has all the makeings of the Oliwakandi syndrome.
