I just got my notebook and is prepared for first charging, however, I want to know how long should I charge it for the first time?? Some of my friend said 6-8 hours, some said 24 hours. The range is just too big for me to handle.

And how long should I charge it for the subsequent charges?? How many hours and how do I know if it's fully charged.

Any tips to increase the battery's lifespan?

Charge it for a few hours and turn it on while it is still plugged in. Watch the battery indicator to make sure it is at 100% then unplug it and let it go until it drains completely. Then recharge it to 100%. This will give you a better battery experience in the long run.

HP should be able to answer this question with the most accuracy; you can call them at 1-800-474-6838.

In general, however, you should charge your laptop until the battery indicator light turns from orange to green (your colors may vary, but this is the most common combination). This is true whether you are charging for the first time, or on subsequent recharges. You can normally use the computer while it is charging, although this will make it take longer to attain a full charge.

Consult your documentation to see if there are specific tips for your particular model or battery, as these may vary from one rechargeable battery to another, but the general rule for rechargeable batteries is that they will work longer if they are run down to a minimal charge prior to recharging them at least once in awhile; cell phones, rechargeable AA, AAA, and 9 volt batteries for toys and electronics usually carry the same instructions as well.

Did you read the manual that came with the laptop instead of posting here, it's a quicker way to find out.

Generally "1st charge" needs to be 2 - 3 times a normal charge time, also flatten battery completely at LEAST once a month and do a full recharge to help preserve lifecycle.

Sounds like your AC adapter is about to die. Buy a new charger for your laptop.
