For YEARS my ex husband has used my user ID to copy and gather information about me from the internet. He has copied information from dating sites, chat rooms and public support groups like those on yahoo. I believe without access to my ID, he wouldn't have been able to access this information. Any comments or suggestions?

I do not know how he obtained my user ID, and YES it is now changed. Yes, I have hard facts that he did this, wonder what type of lawyer I would contact?

Yes it is illegal, yes you can call a lawyer. The problem is that the costs to pursue the issue will be outrageous.

You can also call the police.. because this is a felony and it is stalking. (The problem is that they have more pressing crimes in most cases BUT a report will certainly be worth filing.)

Do two things..
One you appear to have done, CHANGE your USERID and make sure your passwords are strong ones.

Two be sure you computer is really secure. Maybe even have a clean installation of the Operating System if you can't be sure there is no keyloggers, trojans, etc. (Consult an expert.)

Do realize that the web is an "open world" and can be used for things like this... its ashamed really but that is the reality. The WEB is a GIANT POSTCARD so don't put anything out there you don't want others to see.

Two things:

1) Yes, it is illegal if done without your consent.

2) You don't change your user ID and passwords after a divorce? Pack your computer up and return it, you are too naive to own one.

I assume that you have changed all your user ID(s).

Then your ex has probably installed a keylogger on your computer without your consent.
