Variation of sentence types is not always the best way to tell a story. Some authors have distinct writing styles featuring short choppy sentences, while others have long lengthy complex sentences.

From what I believe, a thriller should build suspense and that suspense cannot be drawn out by long lengthy complex sentences. Instead, you should use shorter compound sentences or complex sentences--not so much compound complex sentences because of the length.

Your writing style may differ from others. Remember that a great story may not always follow the strict guidelines of writing... just make sure your sentences and ideas flow from sentence to sentence.

It makes the reading more interesting. And please don't say you "variated" the sentence types. You should say you varied the sentence types.
