Free thinkers do not censor their thoughts because of fear of them (because some thoughts may be considered socially controversial- but should we be defined by the majority context? Free thinkers pick their own context which may or may not parallel society's norms)
and no, free thinker doesn't neccessarily=anarchist

I always saw it as not being too attached to your existing opinions.
Suppose you hate rosie odonnell (you prolly do). If she says something nice to someone, you may say "shes just trying to score points" or you may say "hmm, rosie is being nice"
Notice that your opinion didnt change in either one, but one of them was willing to be convinced.
