Picture it. You are riding a roller coaster that goes upside down. You want to be able to breath when you put your seat belt on so you put it on loose. You head down the track and come to the loops. Because your seat belt is loose you fall out of your seat. Now with the shoulder restraints this could not possibly happen.

Probably because they have those lap bars or harnesses, depending on the ride, that restrain you. Some of the older roller coasters still have the seat belts in addition to the restraining bar, though.

most roller coasters have a seat belt and a lap bar. if the seat belt breaks the lap bar should keep you securely in the seat and vice versa. rides are put through safety checks each day before the park opens so really you should not be concerned about falling out.

It looks like you won't fall out of the seat with no restraints or lapbars because of some proper g's felt, but they are very needed to secure you from dropping accidents as the ride gets stuck in the loop.

Seatbelts aren't as secure as lap bars and harnesses. The only thing that's stopping car companies from putting in those restraint systems in your Honda Civic is because they're expensive, cumbersome, and Civics don't fly down 85 degree hills at 60mph or go through loops.

Virtual or real? If it's real, that's just stupid. I haven't seen one without a seat belt.
