Term limits for Congress I am all for ( I'm a Democrat )

It would take a constitutional amendment

Only way would be a major organization like moveon.org

or another group with the out cry of the American People to

change the corruptness that is in both parties

You would have to write your congresspeople to get something passed. Or schedule a visit with your congresspeople. Historically term limit bills have been floated around on and off for years. However, they are usually started by whatever party is in the minority at the time but when the majority changes the bills lose support because the sponsors no longer want to limit the terms of fellow party members. The president (assuming McCain or Bloomberg become president) can't begin a law or draft a resolution. They can help congressmen draft one and then not veto it when/if it gets passed but the Pres can't actually start one. That is part of the system of checks and balances in our government.

Applying term limits to Congressmen and Senators would require an amendment to the Constitution. There are only two ways to get an Amendment process started:

1) Two-Thirds of the members of both the House and the Senate would have to agree to the Amendment.

2) Three-quarters of the state legislatures would have to call for a Constitutional Convention to take up this and perhaps other amendments.

Frankly, I can't see either of the above happening. Of the two, I think the SECOND most likely, since I can't see 2/3 of Congress being interested in limiting their own tenure.

A BETTER and pehaps MORE LIKELY option would be to urge all STATE LEGISLATURES to end the process of gerrymandering their congressional districts in order to ensure victories by one party or the other. This makes all of the districts more even in terms of representation, and makes it more likely that seats will change hands just by the normal process of voting. I think THIS could be achieved by a grass-roots movement in every state, sort of like the National Popular Vote plan is currently making the rounds.

We have term limits in CA. The career politicians just play musical chairs, going from one elected office to another.
