I closed my account with them after finding out through The Humane Society that they sell offensive material--encouraging animal cruelty.

I've lost count of the used books I bought through eBay -- some of which were really rare and valuable books that I bid on and got at amazing prices. And bidding isn't the only way to go: just do a search and you will find much of what you want in eBay Stores and eBay Express.

As usual, you'd check out the positive feedback of the member before buying...

I think you can get used on overstock.com as well. I will ask if you checked out the claims by Humane Society yourself before you closed your account. I know some of the animal rights groups have a tendency to blow things a bit out of proportion.

ebay's version is called half.com. i have used it and it's pretty good for used textbooks.
