a lot of retail, especially along Broadway. Clothing boutiques and trendy little shops are what makes up soho nowadays, but it once was a huge manufacturing area full of factories......then they became abandoned and artists decided to take them over in the 60's.....that was the beginning and it has evolved from a dilapadated burnt out factory area to an extremely expensive trend center that is extremely overpriced

Soho is mainly the art district, so there are tons of galleries and art supply places. My guess is if you're an artist, curator, designer, etc., that would be the place to go.
