because 90% of their political contributions go to democrat or liberal groups....they do not want to report the news they want to make it and make a difference...thats why i do not pay any attention to them

More than Republican/Democrat, we need hope in this country, hope we can find someone who can bring us out of this mess, someone who can find a way to bridge some of the divisiveness that has us so divided, someone who can run a country without blaming everyone but himself, someone who is a grown up.
Republicans are what we have had as a government for the last seven of the most divisive and draining years in our history. War, debt, secrecy, outright dishonoring of the long held beliefs that made our country different from the European countries that gave us their immigrants. Journalists know far more than they tell us, and I think all of them, not just the lefties are shocked at what has happened to our standing in the world in seven short years. I don't know if the Democrats are going to do any better, the sad thing is they can't do any worse, and they tend to worry more about democracy in our country rather than democracy in a sandpit that never asked for it.
The hope for change is upbeat, the ideas are fresh and untried, the drone tone is due to a replay of old and unpopular and unworkable ideas that have had their try and been found wanting. In fairness seven years from now if a Democrat wins the next election we may be hearing upbeat journalists talking about Republicans, but not for now.

I think it's arguable that there is bias on "both sides." I think we have to think about what stories aren't being told. Was Anna Nicole Smith's story so important that it had to occupy so much time on the major news networks? What other important world events were being glossed over during that time?
Maybe the reason our country is so idealogically divided is because most mainstream journalists never really dive into an issue of national and global importance and report it with all the issue's complexity and so important issues become black and white (which they are not).
When talk-radio folks discuss the issues, they do spend more time on each issue but they also have more of an agenda. Limbaugh and Hannity will never really try and understand things from the liberal side and I don't think the folks at Air America are all too concerned with understanding the conservative side.
I feel what we really have to address is that the mainstream media tends to be SENSATIONALISTIC. They have to draw in viewers to satisfy advertisers. That's just a basic market reality.
One other thing: You may be right in your observation about how TV journalists talk about Democrats - I don't know. I wasn't there. So I'm not here to dispute that. But I also have to say that whenver I go on a cross country trip, most of what I get on the radio - talk radio (particularly in more rural areas) is some station with Limbaugh, Hannity, etc. I never hear a liberal station except in big cities and often this station has a weaker broadcast signal. So liberals could likewise reasonably complain how there is a strong conservative media bias on the radio - and so it goes.

It probably has something to do with 2/3 of our citizens being extremely unhappy with Bush's Administration. He's really done some damage to the Republican Party. Also, most of the news the last year has been about scandal after scandal coming out of the Republican Party. If they're reporting on unpopular views and sordid scandals they aren't going to sound upbeat about it. If they're upbeat about the Democrats it's probably because it's becoming clearer every day that they'll be a Democratic President in '09.

I've heard of studies that have found that journalists tend to be more liberal than Conservative...now I don't know really know the environment or factors, etc that contributed..but it is becoming more and more apparent in the MSM. About the only conservative news station is Foxnews.

It's the good guy/bad guy routine! The rebubies/demos have "morphed" into one party. Want real conservative representation/freedom, vote for Ron Paul & support OUR Libertarian party! Check us out on line to find out the TRUTH & help us take back OUR country/freedoms from the repuplocratic politicians(magicians!).

Haven't you seen the republicans running? they're horrible! The only one who makes any sense is Ron Paul and the media won't report on him. The Republicans are scared of him too because he's the only one who is a real Republican running. The rest are all neocons, theocons or both!
Still the media clowns drool all over that geek Fred Thompson and they won't report how front runners Guiliani, McCain, and Romney flip flop more than a circus full of acrobats!

Which journalists are you talking about? There are many, many different journalists with many, many different political points-of-view. Those guys on Fox News? They're journalists, and they are not like this. Sounds like you're doing some stereotyping and myth perpetuation here.

Not sure what you are referring to.
However, what you are detecting could be related to Bush's poor poll numbers, the high amount of dissatisifed voters who think that the US is going the wrong direction (70%), and the fiasco in Iraq.

Why were journalists so upbeat with Rumsfeild and Cheney and Bust at the onset of the invasion of Iraq. They were like lap dogs listening to every word with awe and joy.
