It was a common belief, although never proven (we'll get back to that word), that the Yankees Murderer's Row line-up all used corked bats. Nobody made much of a fuss at that time because (and we know we have heard this one before), corking a bat was not illegal at that time, although it was frowned upon.

Fast forward eight decades: Until 2003, there was no policy on steroids for MLB. And the homerun parades that were linked to this era included many players that alot of people thought (but here it goes) never PROVED (no smoking gun UA or blood tests) that any of these guys used steroids (ie: Sosa, Bonds, McGuire).

So, no, Ruth was never caught with a corked bat - much the same way that these homerun kings have never tested positive for roids.

Striking parallels, but no "cry foul" for that "majestic" era.

And on a personal level, nobody gave much of a fuss about how these legends of the early age were not role models (ie: drunkards, adulterers). This coming from a time period when society was much less permissive to such behavior. In our time, society doesnt care about these things - UNLESS you are a star. But of course, that has nothing to do with baseball...

Not true.
Babe was never caught using a corked bat.

Babe Ruth actually used the heaviest bat probably ever...I think it was something like 48 ounces.

McGwire even said that it was too heavy for him to use.

Babe Ruth was ahead of his time but I don't think he was 30+ years ahead. Corked bats came into baseball in the mid to late 60s.

Never occurred, corked bats never came into play until the 1960's. Somebody will post something saying I am totally wrong, players used corked bats in the 1950's, but my point is they were never used in the 1920's.
