Check the foot brake to see if the return spring fell off also check for dried mud. also check to see if the hand brakes electrical conector is still connnected. The light will only turn on if the circut is closed. Thes means one of the brakes is or thinks it is bieng used. Also try to adjust the foo brake sensor. At the spring connector.

It sounds like the brake switch. I am guessing it is a ford. This is very common. Does the light shut off if you pull up on the brake pedal? I had a windstar with the same problem. You can also check for a recall on this problem. VW has a recall for this, and I belive that some other manufactorers do aswell. If this is not the solution you could also check the trailer wiring if equiped. Good luck.

The rear brake light switch is adjustable.
It has to be re-adjusted when changing the brakes, or after adjusting them.
Try adjusting it.
The switch is connected to the brake pedal by a long spring.
The F or R brake light switches could be getting stuck in the on position.
Try pulling the rod out of each to see if one is stuck (due to dirt, or from getting bent).
Clean with WD-40.
