George Thorogood & the Destroyers are the best and longest lived..."Bad To The Bone" along with a ton of great songs that rock!

Bonnie Raitt is good too, a little R&B though!

99% of the time a slide guitar will be in a country song.

BTW, there is NOT a slide-guitar in 'Free Bird'...lol
Rossington 'simulates' a 'slide effect' on a REGULAR electric guitar! A Slide Guitar is set out like a keyboard and the player must sit down to play it with a special slide pick.

You could probably listen to some Bonnie Raitt, she is an excellent slide guitarist and her music is more blues sounding...

EDIT - Or were you referring to a Steel Guitar (set up like a keyboard and using a steel slide) mostly used in country music?

The opening to 'Travelling Riverside Blues' by Led Zeppelin uses some good slide guitar. Also 'Freebird' by Lynrd Skynrd. Alot of Bonnie Raitts' stuff is slide too.

Slide guitar is generally not played in country. It's used in rock and blues.

Pete Droge uses a lot of steel guitar. Look for Pete Droge or "Pete Droge and The Sinners"
