Does anyone, ANY one, think that the players give their 100% or that they actually care about a regular season game when they know they have, a 161! more games to go...? Is this cheating the fans or what?!

How can you truly stay in touch with a game that you never watch?

Your team changes faces so many time throughout the season. You could be totally lost by the time the post season arrives.

Why be a fan at this point?

Players like A-Rod ONLY play well in the regular season, putting up great numbers early, then flaking out toward the end and into the playoffs.

There's a lot of good teams that never make it to the playoffs. The wildcard races have added some excitement to the post-season race, besides the often run-away leads division leaders tend to flex toward the last weeks of the season.

With a lot of big name free agents on the trading block this year, that can be something to watch with the teams falling short of the playoffs and wanting to dump some payroll and start thinking about the '08 season.

Not to mention, that if you root for a team that doesn't make the playoffs, you should always root for your team whether they are in it or not. This is what seperates REAL fans from YANKS fans. Bandwagon fans need not apply.

I have watched about 50 games this season. I have seen 20 or so that were 'Great'. I saw Todd Helfer get his 1000th hit in the same park! Only 5 (five) players have done this in the history of baseball. If you love the GAME you'll watch. If not, then you can tune in to the post-season and jump on somebody's bandwagon.

you've never played organized sport have you? i'll agree and accept that on rare occasion, a professional player might not give his all. this is the exception, not the rule. for the most part these guys are in the majors for some very specific reasons.

1) they are ubber talented
2) they are able to handle the mental adversities
3) they are fierce competitors and HATE to lose.

the first two are given, it's my 3rd point you seem to not appreciate. i guarantee, these guys give 100% every night, and it has nothing to do with the money they get paid or anything but their level of testosterone and their desire to win at any cost.

I think there are some players that will be on cruise control because of the projected place in the standings that they should end up and others may take it easy because they won't make the playoffs regardless of how hard they try.

Teams that 'could' make the playoffs and anyone in a contract year probably play really hard. As well as people that believe that effort will make the difference between the HOF and not.

So if no one is giving 100%, how do you explain no hitters, hitting for the cycle, great diving and leaping catches, head-first slides, and all the other wonderful things we see game after game after game.

Don't. Lots of people only watch the post-season. There is not one dang thing wrong with it. I watch it all the time because I like it. If you don't, you're not alone.
