I would definitely encourage you to file a restraining order. As long as you know where he's at and they can deliver the order - this will at least get him arrested if somehow he does find out where you are living.
As far as giving him your information about your location - if you are persuing a divorce - and I'm not 100% sure on this - but the lawyer should be able to handle everything. You will probably have to appear in court if he contests the divorce - but there is no reason why he should need to know where you live.
Please...I have lived in an abusive relationship...if you are at all concerned about your safety get the restraining order filed. At least you will have some protection in the event he finds you and harrasses you.
You can also usually contact an attorney and get a free consultation. I did - when I decided to leave - and the advice she offered was invaluable.
Good Luck to you!

neither you nor your family has any obligation to tell your husband where you are....and it would be very wise to keep it like that.. WHY have you not gotten a divorce...move ASAP on this, you needn't appear in court, and in fact, this is entirely a proceedural event at best. Make sure your parents, friends, etc. KNOW that you do NOT want your husband to know of your whereabouts today! Make sure you stress this to all concerned. Good luck and find some peace. It may mean, eventually, that you take out a restraining order, but do NOT do that now, for he will then know where he cannot go!

Yes you can get a divorce without letting him know of your address or even the city you live in.. (I was in a battered woman's shelter and asked the same question) and when you have to serve him divorce papers all you have to do is place the ad in the newspaper in the city he lives in.. but if you get a lawyer then he will tell you all this..

You can have the lawyer file for divorce, and designate the lawyer to receive all legal replies and notices. Unless there are children from the marriage, he has no need or right to have your contact information!
Good luck!

not really, he can hire a private investigator to find you if he's that persistant. perhaps you can contact him (from a payphone) and leave a message that you do not want to be in contact with him and if he pursues you, you will be forced to take out a restraining order. that should keep a sane man at bay.
but since your man sounds a tad bit crazy, you might just want to not contact him at all, get your parents caller ID so they can avoid his calls, and plan on everyone "laying low".

if you have an attorney, he doesn't need to contact you ever. he can call the attorney. you didn't mention any children so this could be easier. if the courts need an address, get a PO BOX. your address can be confidential with the courts.

It shouldn't be necessary for him to know your whereabouts. Make sure your attorney knows you do not want your address or phone number or any personal information given to your husband. If he needs to reach you, he can do it through your attorney (or family, if that is okay with you).

As long as you do not have kids together that you are keeping him from seeing and you do not want to try to work things out then you dont have to tell him where you are...especially if you are afraid of him
