To be honest, my opinion is a little biased & not so good. I lived with 2 Russians this year while my grandfather was sick. They were live-in aides. I found these men to be loud, LAZY, rude, & greedy not to mention very cold & emotionless (I think the last 2 are the main stereotypes Americans have of Russians). When the last live-in aide found that my grandfather had passed away in his sleep, he knocked on my parents' bedroom door & very matter of factly stated "Rich dead" & demanded to be paid so he could leave that night. Needless to say, my opinion isn't too great after these experiences. Those months I'd spent living with these men were some of the worst, most stressful times I've had in my life. My family had to do their work for them while they watched tv, talked on the phone, ate all the food, went out for hours on end, & demanded more $$.
Good luck with your move. I wish you the best. I'm sure you're a nice person. At least you care enough to ask what people think. The people I knew obviously didn't.

Zdravstvuitye. The Cold War is long over. Russians are just fine. Sure, there are some strange things going on in the Russian government right now, but that is not the People. We have never had anything against the people of Russia.
The Beatles wrote a great song, Back in the USSR. "The Ukraine girls really knock me out; they leave the West Behind."

No, I like Russian people, but many will find it hard to adjust to this culture due to the amount of control their previous Government had over their lives. When I was in the USSR back in the 70s the Government told everyone where to work & where to live... I suspect this will be hard to overcome unless one is young.
Chuckle, many see Russian women as big strong women that are a bit overweight, but I know they have some of the World's most beautiful women. Because many Russians had to trade in the black market to survive reasonably well, we do view them as master criminals if they decide to pursue that career. I know of no one that dislikes the Russians as a people though. I am an engineer & have nothing but respect for my collegues in Russia... they did a fine job in spite of restrictions placed on them by an incompetent government.

I don't think that for most people it is really an issue. My boss is Russian, although she has been in the states for many years, and it has never seemed to bother any other of the management at our company. Do you feel that it bothers people that you are in the states? My boss has an accent but not a really thick accent, just enough to really make people guess that she's from Russia.

So many people from so many countries have come to the US recently that Americans are having difficulty maintaining an identity of their own. It is very possible the some of the people who appear "bothered" are other recent immigrants who look like Americans to you.
It used to be that people came here to be like us; to respect out laws, to enjoy our freedoms, to become part uf us. Now it seems many come here to try to make our society more like their old society, which, in human terms, is a form of invasion, actually many competing invasions at once.
We, as Americans, are beginning to feel like we "bother" the immigrants, and you are probably just feeling the same social pressures that we are.
Be an American with a strong ethnic identity. That is what most of us are. But do not ethnically cleanse America to make it safe for the generations to come, there would be nobody left!

Those Russian sterotyping days are long gone. Maybe not completely, but i know the new generations of people do not think of Russian people as being evil, or discriminate them. I myself have never thought like that and i know alot of people at my school have no problem for Russian people either. I hope you enjoy your time in America!

I don't care really. America is the land of opportunity. I kind of think it is great that so many people still want to come here.
Hmm Russian stereotypes... The only one that I can think of is a mobster, the Russian mod etc. I honestly don't believe that Russians are mobsters either... thats just silly.
