1 GByte = 1024 Megabyte
Is 80G much, depends what you do, to me, NO as I can use that in a single video editing project.
But as a scale, 1.44 MB = 1 floppy disk
700MB = 1 CD
4700MB (ish) = 1 DVD = 4.7GB
For "normal" documents from Word, 80G is quite a lot
For digital photos not so much
For video not so much at all

Others have defined the differences... but 80Gig should be fine for you. I have a 5 year old system with 300 CDs on it, Windows XP, and 5 years worth of other documents... and I'm at 45Gig.
If you're going to save videos, 80Gig is too small. If you're going to put CDs on it, documents, pictures, you'll be fine.
The actual definition is...
Megabyte - a Million bytes (like a million single characters)
Gigabyte - a Billion (that is; a 1000 million) single characters)

Yes. 1 Gb = 1024 Mb. An 80 Gb Hard Drive is a decent one. You should use 20 Gb alone for your OS software (Windows, Mac, Linux) and the other 60 for everything else.
If you happen to be a media junkie (movies, music, games, etc), then you may want to have a 120-250 Gb Hard Drive. Otherwise, you'll be ok with one you have.

A gigabyte is 1000 megabytes. 80 gig is a lot for songs and various software but when it comes to storing movies you'll eat it up quick and need more.

1 gigabyte = 1024 megabytes.
80 gigbytes is a decent size for a hard drive, but it's not very much by today's standards. If you're into downloading music or working with video files, get one with 160 GB, or more if you can afford it.
