The group with the smallest number of different species in it is e. genus.

The classification scheme goes from Kingdom down to genus and species in the order: Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species.

Genus.....it is the smallest category of organisms before species, which comes next.

example: humans -- homo(genus) sapiens (species)
