If a hydraulic lift is used to lift the object of 5 kg, the pressure required in addition to atmospheric pressure will depend on the diameter of the piston on which it is kept.

5 kg mass has a weight of 5 x 9.8 = 49 N. If r is the radius of the piston in metre, then the minimum pressure needed will be equal to
= 1 atm + 49 / pi x r^2 N/m^2.

= ( 1.01 x 10^5 + 49 / pi x r^2 ) N / m^2.
