Yeah, and why are we taught that culture is spelled with a "c" when it's obviously spelled with a "k", and why do I have to put a dash in pre-existing and he doesn't, and he doesn't have to spell out -ing, ever. It's not fair, mom, I wish I was from another culture.

This is a good question. Up until now, zero meant nothing to me. Now it has more power than any other number. Stick it behind a one, whammy! 10 How can that be nothing? Dude, you've opened up my world and I thank you.

These ideas need to be presented to children so they may not be bound by nothing. (By the way, I don't consider that a double negative.)

The starting point, 0. It really is important to have that image, it seems to be a grounding, mentally. Like a foundation, you know? It is before anything, therefore it has substance, because anything that 'is', um, does, uh, have substance. Cool.

Because zero means nothing. Literally 0 is the physical representation of "nothing". It's the mathematical way of saying that there is nothing in that spot.

in a hypermaterialistic society, zero refers to the lack of any material item. in those other cultures, it is not as important what you have, so it is easier to see zero as a start or finish to something greater.
