I wanted to lose 3 pounds..so I lowered my calories to about 1200 give or take.

Well..I just read on the internet that if you lower calories too much..for 3 days, your metabolism slows down! And then when you go back to eating more than that..you gain weight!
I don't want that to happen!

How can I get it up again?

I do 40 minutes of aerobics daily [used to be 20, made it 40 to lose the weight]
&
40 minutes on the stationary bike [again, doubled it to lose the weight.]

What can I do to make it faster..so I don't end up gaining weight!

Eating several smaller meals throughout the day (roughly every 2.5 to 3 hours) is the best way to rev up your metabolism. It keeps the body burning calories constantly. You can have those calories add up to 1500 at the least (i would say that 1200 is too low).
Its kind of a pain to eat smaller healthy meals/snacks this way, but it will work. and the meals/snacks should include carbs, protein and healthy fats. Peanut butter, Almonds, Chicken breast, yogurts, vegetables and fruits smoothies, etc...are all easy examples of small but healthy choices.
Eating too few calories causes the body to feed on itself....and not in a good way. It will start with muscle tissue first and leave the fat as a reserve because millions of years of evolution has taught the body to save fat stores when it thinks its starving.

Keep up the cardio and maybe add some weight training. Muscles burn calories at rest unlike fat...plus theyre sexy! and dont worry...women dont have enough testosterone to get BIG. you'll just get toned and sleek

you can lower your calories without causing your metabolism to slow. Make sure you are eating 3 full meals a day and eating a snack in between. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and jump starts your metabolism. Snacks can be raw veggies, or fruit. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and change milk to skim. My metabolism kicked up a bit when I increased my workout and lowered my metabolism because I was eating regularly.

When you exercise, your fat turns into muscle, and muscle weighs more than fat.
Just eat a well balanced diet, avoid alcohol, and really - 3 pounds is hardly life or death.
It's when you need to lose 300 pounds that you ought to start worrying.
