Hmmm....... It could be a number of things. Have you had a Tune up? Have you had your Air and fuel filters, transmission fluid and PCV changed? Since your car only has 94,000 miles I really wouldnt think your transmission is goin up.
Inspect The Level and Condition of your Transmission Fluid – Make sure you keep your fluid at the proper level and change it according to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. Transmission fluid is a transparent red when in good condition. If the fluid is muddy brown or black, you should get your vehicle checked as soon as possible.
Be Mindful of any Unusual Noises – If you notice any strange noises or vibrations, have your vehicle checked out immediately.
Check For Leaks – Create a routine schedule for inspecting under your car for leaks. The reddish color of transmission fluid should make it very easy to spot if you have a leak. Remember, if the fluid goes below the recommended level, you are in danger of serious transmission damage.
You said, "It just seems to take longer then it should to pick up speed." are you talking from 0 to 60 (taking off from a dead stop)? How long is too long? 5seconds, 10 seconds, or 30 seconds?

If the problem is the transmission you will notice a very jerky acceleration especially when you really give it the gun. This is unlikely.
Here are the things required to make a car go:
Fuel: Try running some fuel injector cleaner through the tank and see if the fuel injectors might be clogged.
Air: Try replacing your air filter, often on old cars they get clogged and restrict air flow.
Spark: If the above do not work, you might try checking or replacing your spark plugs. If this is the problem, you might also notice the occasional jerk or skip in the engine.

while the brakes are putting up. come across a steep driveway or grade. quit the automobile and verify the brake will carry the automobile in place without pedal tension. Then close off the automobile and pump the brake pedal 10 situations. this would drain the brake booster of any vacuum. Now place the motor vehicle in impartial and back being careful, see if the automobile will now roll with the aid of itself. I wager it is going to and because it relatively is rolling slowly, initiate the automobile because it relatively is in impartial. And pres on the brake pedal 2-three times. I wager the brakes will start to pull back. you have now shown you have a defective Brake booster. Get it replaced. Oh with the aid of the way i'm hoping you haven't any longer have been given something yet DOT3 or 4 brake fluid interior the grasp cylinder. i've got viewed incorrect fluids reason an analogous concern. the rubber seal on the grasp cylinder cap would be swollen badly. it relatively is quite stressful to repair. and expensive.

I don't think it's your transmission, if it were, it would be slipping...you would definately know.
I think just give it a tune up!
You can get alot more miles out of that car!
I have a 1995 Pontiac Grand AM with over 200,000 miles, and it still runs great! Just gotta tune them up every now and then.

You might want to check the back brakes (as they are drum brakes), they may have gone out of adjustment and actually ARE dragging as you accelerate.
Previous answers on last tune up are good too. Something as simple as replacing the air filter can cause that (imagine running when YOU can't get air)
good luck

if it is an auto transmission it could be your torque converter or could be as simple as a brake sticking Have it checked before it gets worse & most likely cost you more money

Perhaps low transmission fluid, or leaking transmission fluid. You should get it checked out.
