Use a solar cover! They are just plastic covers that harness the sun's energy so I would think that qualifies as environmetally friendly, right??

These are all the things that i do and some tips if you haven't done them. Well first of all when your using the computer limit some time. And when you leave the computer on sleep or hibernate you shouldn't do that, if everyone didn't do that that would be the equivalent of taking tons of cars off the road. Also when you go to school do carpools with your friends it saves gas and stops more junk getting into the air. And its also a good way to spend a little more time with friends. Another thing you could do is when your washing the car and all the soap is on the ground don't let it go down the drain or else it will go to the bay and kill all the animals and sea animals. And also another thing is that since gas prices are so high now people can ride bikes and scooters and stuff like that. Use the car when you really need to not just for like going to a store that's a block away. It will save the earth and save you money. Another thing that will really help is to recycle. Recycle bags, cans, almost anything. Use it again. Plant a garden too. It will smell nice and is earth friendly.

Solar covers and blankets work well but you can always get a solar heater. Small panels can go on the ground or on the roof of nearby building to heat the water before its pumped back into the pool It uses the pools existing pump system just runs a hose from out port on pump through the solar panels then back into the pool.

Solar panel or wind mill to a storage battery. Run your heater off of the battery. You'll need to have a DC Heater unless you use a converter ( called an Inverter, i believe). This will also allow you to store power for use on days of low wind or low sun light, yets still heat the pool. Other times, the pool will reqire little heating and you will store more of the power; such as, days when it is 90degrees outside. You will want to have overcharge protection though.

I had a friend that lived in Florida and he took 2x4 lumber and made a frame put a piece of plywood on one side on the inside of the frame on the back side of the plywood coil garden hose all over attaching it to the plywood with conduit clips, so not to smash the hose tee off of the pool pump and circulate water through the hose, now back to the frame on the front or the top of the frame take another piece of plywood and paint the surface of it black to absorb the suns rays and heat the water in the hose before it goes back to the pool. Make as many of these that are necessary to heat your size of pool. Its a cheap solar panel and can be mounted anywhere if they are vertical I would recommend painting both sides black that way you can catch full sun all day long.

Yup. I worked customer service for a utility company in the desert southwest, and this really works great--and costs less than twenty bucks:

Buy several hula hoops. Cheap and ugly is fine, but make sure they aren't damaged--no sharp edges where one is bent, for instance. How many you buy depends on the size of the pool.

Buy black or dark green trash bags, the biggest ones, and duct tape.

Insert hula hoop into trash bag and tape completely shut. Don't worry if a little air is trapped in there. Toss in pool. This will float on the surface.

If the bag won't fit over the hoops, open the bag and tape it in a single layer over one side of the hula hoop. Drop rather than toss the completed hoop, so it catches enough air on the underside to float.

The sunlight's warmth, absorbed by the dark bags, transfers to the water and can heat a pool quite nicely in a sunny location. Remove the hoops to swim, of course.

P.S. Don't leave the hoops on the grass for more than a day or two, since they'll block light and kill the grass.

Happy swimming!

Solar covers attract the Suns' heat to heat them. I think you can buy them according to the dimensions of your pool and they float on top. Also helps keep out debris.

Solar blankets are great for heating and retaining the heat. Also, if you could install some kind of solar system on your roof for the water to filter through...you will have much hotter water going in...

I like the trash bags and hula hoops. Nice and cheap. Also you can pump the water through coiled black hoses then back into the pool. It won't interfere with swimming. I saw this in southern california.
