When it comes to the "no-touch" policy many schools have, should it extend to punishment for friendly high fives, hand shakes, etc.?

(I saw a story on CNN.com about a middle schooler who hugged his girlfriend for a moment in the cafeteria and was punished by the cafeteria monitor. Just wondered what other people thoughts were)

Some schools have a no-touch policy, and it has really strayed from the purpose. The original target were people sexually harrassing other people and couples that had their tongues down each other's throats in the hallways. Now, it seems like some schools have taken it too far. A hug, a handshake, or whatever is mutual and to show that two people are friendly, not sex-crazed. Schools should really get together and come up with a concrete definition to rules, so this doesn't happen again.

Hard to say, you have to draw a line somewhere, what if you goto give a girl high-5 and miss and hit her boob, then the school would be sued for neglect

No, of course not! This is getting ridiculous! I agree that kids shouldn't be smacking eachothers butts or anything, but high fives? That's part of elementary school culture!

I understand the nessecity, but jeez, the world has gone nuts..... a no touch policy... in a minute we all die of loneliness.... rediculous... instead of making the schools smaller they say: forbidden to touch... stupid gits.

Yes, and butt slaps on the football field. I never understood those. "Nice tackle! I'll show my jubilation by touching your butt!"
