does anyone believe that we landed on the moon?

We don't have the time and money to sink into moon expeditions anymore. The US and other countries have plenty of wars and other things to spend money on.

There have been some ideas on how to make the moon profitable but you have to spend money to make money and that's money the world, especially the US, doesn't want to spend.

This question comes up on average twice a day (that I know of, perhaps many more time that I do NOT know of as I am not on Yahoo! 24/7) so I will given by rebuttal #1: The Soviets were at a space race against the USA in thew 1960 to get on the moon first. The Soviets had both the means AND the desire to prove the US lunar landing was a hoax IF it was; they did not say anything along those lines because they KNEW it was real. Now, for the second item on you list: how come there is no more landing on the moon after that? Because the USA became preoccupied with other things: the Watergate scandal and the Viet-Nam war, and the mid-1970's oil crisis, plus the recession, and the disinterest from the general public saw a reduction in the NASA budget. The last human landing in 1972 (Apollo 17, December 1972 was the 6th and last human moon mission) was done in what was essentially general public indifference. Then NASA put all its marbles in the space shuttle, which, thanks to political intervention to make it cheaper, became not as capable as it was supposed to be, and actually more expensive than it would have been had the NASA scientists had their way. Now, for the real interesting bit, here is your own contradiction: on the one hand you claim that the 1969 landing was fake, but that thay are ON THE MOON, mining away? I mean, do you have any idea how complex a mining operation needs to be on the moon? How many huge rockets would be needed? And they would have faked the first landing to cover a much bigger real landing with mining processing facilities? Think about it.

We did land on the moon. There is simply no way it could have been faked. NASA's archives are filled with photos, samples, and equipment that are certainly not faked. Amateur astronomers and radio buffs monitored the moon missions and can confirm that they happened.

The reason why we stopped going is more complex. Some would say that there was nothing to find there. That is true in some sense -- we have no shortage of rocks right here on earth. We didn't find diamonds or green cheese or fuzzy pet aliens. There was no obvious economic benefit to the moon.

The less obvious (but well-documented) benefit of the space program is the vast technological knowledge we reaped from it. Everything from medical telemetry to foam bedding, advances in computers, radar, and materials sciences came from space research. I can only imagine where we would be in terms of technology if we had continued with the aggressive exploration of space that started under President Kennedy.

Our current space program is the result of funding cuts (Senator Proxmire hated NASA) and short-sightedness. It's primary job is launching and maintaining sattelites.

Lunar landing was a P.R. stunt just to show U.S. superiority in the space race after the Russians gained several achievements. (First satellite, First Man, First Woman, First Crewed mission. First space station, first lunar probe, Endurance records etc.)
the Russians were more cautious in their approach, even NASA wasn't sure if Armstrong and Aldrin could return (first it was feared the lander may sink into the surface, then it was that there was only 10 seconds of fuel left in the lander upon landing). Collins was given special training to help him cope with travelling home on his own should the lander not return.

It's hugely expensive, but if we want to get to Mars it's probably our best option to setup a forward base camp there where fuel and components can be stored / manufactured.

You will get those that believe we landed on the moon in 1969, and those that don't, But the facts are the U.S on it's own admission is still about 12 years away from doing a moon landing ,so draw your own conclusions

The moon landings were real, they happened in the past, information as well as material was gathered from all of the trips, the data was analyzed, follow-up trips have been planned, these missions will branch out to other manned missions to other planets, etc. What's left to be said?

I'm sure the didn't fake it and about why not anymore well would you want to pay millions to do something you've done before again(besides landed on one moon landed on'em all)

Of course we did. I saw it happen--all six times.

We haven't gone back to the Moon because we haven't been willing to spend the money. Hopefully that will soon change if plans for building the first permanent Moon base get underway.

Because we can send the robots and get the samples, and carryout all the experiments on earth which will save lot of resources. Also I believe that they have not yet finished studying the specimens / samples brought by Neil Armstrong.

The moon is useless and it is very expensive to land there.
