Where is the best place to buy memory for my Compaq Presario computer?

as said before .. go crucial.com will tell you what memory u need since ur not stating the model number..

that will tell you the type of memory u need ddr / ddr2 etc

as for buying off auction sites.hhmm hit and miss.. some ppl sell faulty memory, i always buy mine new.

Once you figure out what RAM to get at: www.crucial.com, go to www.pricewatch.com to get it for the cheapest price. If you think the vendor looks fishy, you can always check them out at www.resellerratings.com.

NOTE: Laptops only have 2 slots and they are usually both filled, so you need to replace them, so make sure you buy the amount you want without adding to what you already have.

AND: If this is desktop model from a "big box" store, even those have only a few slots (either 2 or 4); so make sure to check to see if there are slots available. PLUS: depending on the processor and motherboard, you may need to buy RAM in pairs, so read the "upgrade RAM" instructions that came with the PC.

Try ebay. You need to give more details...What type of RAM does it take? DDR..SDRAM....it is also very important that you know which companies your motherboard will not work with.
