when nba players are traded or signed to another team, why are they being booed when they play in their former team's homecourt?

Because either they forced a trade, or they had bad things to say about the team or city before they left.

This doesn't always happen. Sometimes the former player is cheered on return to the arena where he used to play for the home team.

The circumstances of the departure as well as the popularity of the player when he was there determine the reception received by that player on his return. If the fans feel the player deserted them or the player aired out sour grapes on his departure, I wouldn't be surprised if the player was booed roundly. If the player was liked, left on good terms, and was traded without having demanded it, I would expect he would be cheered.

I guarantee that Kurt Rambis was cheered on his return to The Forum after going to Charlotte, for example.

I don't think it happens as much with trades, but more with signings. I don't know which team you're a fan of, but whenever an old player comes back to Sacramento, he's usually cheered. I think with free agency fans just feel betrayed, just as they do in baseball and other major sports. Unless the guy had an attitude problem and spoke out against the team (i.e. TO in Philly) this is obviously unwarranted.

It happens quite often and i think its really wrong. Now I've been a Mavs fan for the past 20 years, Ive watched and supported them since I was 6 and believe me it was not easy most of that time the way they played. Finley gave us 8 awesome years, and to avoid the luxury tax we let him go coz we didnt think he was worth the extra 51 mil anymore. He got 3 minute standing ovations when he played (with the spurs) in Dallas for the first 2 times. But come playoff time Mark Cuban decided (after terry punched Fin in hte nuts) that Fin was a bad guy and thus should be booed. It pissed me off then even after i understand it was a psychological move and it still pisses me off. Fin is still oneof my fav player coz i have so many good memories of him.
Players should get the respect they deserve.

Yeah. In a country where being both yellow, and a judas, is par for the course, you'd think: no hard feelings, right?

Because they are traitors. And I'm not even kidding. Especially that two timing son of a bi-tch Ben Wallace.

Aww, poor philly iggles...Are you throwing a tantrum because the pistons SUCK TERRIBLY without him? They are DEAD, son, DEAD. Anyway, They are booed because the fan's are bad sports, but it doesn't matter, because the fans can do what they want.
