I hear only drug addicts do this, but I'm thinking others may do it too if they need money for another reason.

Actually I have done that before, but not because of being a drug addict. It's because I was in college. I needed money to pay my electric bill and I got paid every 2 weeks from a lousy part-time job. It was going to be a week, so I walked down the block to the local blood bank.

A lot of people give blood because good clean blood is need in this country for when blood transfusions are needed in hospitals. I'd say 95% of people do it because it is a good cause and not for the money. Drug addicts most likely wouldn't be able to donate their blood because even if they lie and get through the prescreening, all blood is tested to make sure it is clean, and their blood would never pass this.
Sounds like you heard the urban legend side to this and not th truth side.

They don't give money where I live,,You give to help others. The feeling you get from giving can't have a price put on it.

I've given 7 and 1/2 gallons so far,, some whole blood, some plasma,,it depends on how fast the bag can be filled..

I have thought about it in the past, but it really is not much money and if the bank pays you, they cannot use the products in humans- instead it is used for cosmetics, making other drugs, etc.

For the last 30 years, I've been donating blood, platelets and/or plasma to the American Red Cross, who uses it for more humanitarian reasons. They don't pay for it, but it is nice to help.

I donated Plasma

I don't think you get money for just blood anymore like from United Blood Services.

Not for drugs but food or gas

I give blood but I have never been given money. they give you an orange juice and a cookie.

I want money for my blood though...I don't see what's wrong with that...when I was little I'd cut my hair and get money for my hair...
I had really beautiful red hair that was very long and so the hairdresser wanted it to make wigs.....

Anyway I don't see what's wrong with it...I think this question is actually sort of pathetic. only drug addicts. get real!

Everyone loves money!

I don't know of many places that pay you to give blood. And the reason is just that (getting drug addicts' blood which is often contaminated with the HIV virus). Selling organs on the "black market" is illegal.

Sure, back when I was a starving college student/working musician I would do darn near anything for a buck.

Of course now I give it away for free every few months. What an excellent way to save a life and give a bit back to the community...

Why not! You're helping to possibly save someones life and getting paid to do it! You have to give plasma to get paid though. I hear its a really big needle and it hurts! It's a little different than just giving blood.

They don't give money for blood around here-just a crappy t-shirt and cookies and soda. I would give blood for money. I could use the extra money, and they need the blood. I give blood anyway though.
