You can have my gun when you pry my cold, dead fingers from around it. That goes for my speech as well pal.

Let's be honest, your full of crap with this idea right?
I mean the basis of you even being able to ask a question about the law of the land, like you are doing right now, is granted by the very law you want to outlaw! That makes no sense at all.
If it was to be abolished well this whole YA page would be shut down, or at least the P&G section. Yes I agree that many DJ's are juvenile perverts and most of the crap on TV and movies is just that, crap, but the right to exchange ideas and thoughts freely without remorse and the fear of legal prosecution is why so many still come to this country, the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Are you serious?? Why don't we just stop the vulgarity and filth like it was in the sixties and early seventies? People could talk about what they wanted to but had to remain civil and honorable in their speech. There was freedom of speech without all the trashy obscenity and vulgarity in media. You could watch TV without being ashamed to let your child watch and listen. We had it right, but somewhere we lost it and went haywire. Some people today mistake freedom of speech to mean you can say whatever, whenever, to whoever. That has never been the case and even today you cannot yell fire in a crowded theatre if there isn't a fire; you can't joke about having a bomb in an airport. With freedom of speech comes a responsibility. Today we have allowed some to talk us into eliminating much of the responsibility, but to eliminate freedom of speech would be an even bigger blunder.

I believe that Freedom of Speech did originate from this country because immigrants who migrated to the U.S. were in a society that didn't allow them to express their opinions especially if it challenged the government's view. I think the truth as in everything there is courtesy and manners when it comes to expressing your true opinion because not only can affect your reputation personally and professionally you're abusing the freedom of speech. Those people who talk so crass or inappropriate have the arrogance to believe that they can say whatever they want and people like Isaiah Washington from Grey's Anatomy feels victimized because he was fired for having his comments exploited. I don't think the freedom of speech should be abolished perhaps etiquette needs to be taught on what should and shouldn't be said. I think most people talk so low and disrespectful is they haven't been exposed to other cultures. When you travel internationally, you become more open-minded.

Let's be clear, freedom of speech protects a person from government regulated speech. When a government controls a persons speech, the also control there thought, and then we have what George Orwell wrote about in his book 1984. We are a nation that treasures speech, to change this in any way would be destroying the institution of America.

It is actually used quite often. It is only brought to our attention when things like DJs use it to defend themselves. For example, in places that don't have free speech, this question wouldn't even be allowed to exist. In China, many of the citizens think Tienanmen Square was a parade, not a protest.

Are you nuts??
Do you really want to give up your right to say that you
don't like whomever is sitting as President, or any elected
official. You want to be told what you can or can not say?
for me I will never give up my freedom of speech.
You should give up whatever you are smoking because
Dude, you are seriously whacked.

Yes, freedom of speech should be abolished. We should abolish education too while we are at it since it doesn't seem to be working in your case.
