That's a tough one. You know how if people try to take the bible literally, it is impossible to live in todays world. The same goes for taking one day at a time. When this saying came about, times were different. It is very difficult in this world that moves so much faster than it did 40, 50, 60 years ago, to take things easier and not stress ourselves out. We have no choice but to live each day in it's own time, so taking things, "One day at a time" isn't something we can control. I think you need a new way to say what this used to mean.
