I tried to turn it off but it just wouldn't. I kept holding the play/pause button but it wouldn't shut off, so I finally gave up and set it down. I guess it finally shut off when the battery died (it was fully charged when I was using it). I thought it would have shut off in a few minutes since I had the song on pause and it wasn't doing anything, but this morning I tried to turn it on and it wouldn't work, and when I plugged it into my computer it said it had a very low battery.

I was wondering, what I can do if this happens again?

I never use the hold button, but I did check and it was off. I was able to play and pause the song, just not turn it off.

For some reason, I didn't think of resetting it last night.

By chance is the "hold" switch on the top of the ipod in the hold position (orange showing).

well you can do what you did and let it run out of battery or you can plug it into you computer and you can refresh it. You can also hold down the top and middle button and wait for the apple to come up and it will refresh itself, but if that doesn't work then go to the computer!

try holding the menu button and the button in the middle for 10 seconds. that should fix the problem.

It tells you how to reset your ipod in your manual. I can't remember exactly how to do so but I looked it up in my book. If you don't have your book go to ipod.com and they have online manuals.
