Once the battery is fully charged it will reduce to a "trickle charge" which is not supposed to hurt the battery. If you never use the laptop off the batter (or rarely) and just use the laptop plugged into the wall 24/7 then eventually it will degrade the life of the battery.
A lot of people (in my company for example) leave the battery in until it is fully charged and then unplug the battery and put it in the desk drawer. (maybe throw it back in every once in a while to maintain a full charge).

Otherwise, it is farily safe to leave it plugged in (and battery installed). Yes eventually the battery will degrade, but that generally takes years to happen (years being 2-3 years).

Most people leave their laptops plugged in when they are near an AC outlet.. It causes the battery to lose capacity over time, but it's a very slow process. It's no big deal if you just keep it plugged in for a weekend.

If you're talking about leaving it plugged in every day for for a year, then your battery will need replacing sooner than someone who didn't do that.

If you are going to leave it plugged in for a long time it is best to take out the battery. Everytime you turn on the computer the battery charges and discharges shortening the battery life.

Keep it plugged in. It will also serve as a backup in case of power failure.
