Help!!! I will be auditioning soon and I am in desperate need of a song. I'm aiming for the role of either Lola or Meg. I'm a really strong singer, mezzo soprano. Songs I was considering were My New Philosophy, I Enjoy Being a Girl, Good Morning Baltimore, If I Were a Bell, and There are Worse Things I Could Do.

Lola is a sexy girl who can do what she wants with men, I'd go for something less innocent.

When You Got It Flaunt It - The Producers
All That Jazz - Chicago
Don't Tell Mama - Cabaret
Naughty Baby - Crazy For You

Try those or something similar :-)

Good luck!

I would not suggest any of the songs that you are thinking of nor any of the songs suggested by others.

Here are a couple of ground rules for auditioning:
1. Don't sing a song that's overdone. Thousands of people have tried to sing "All That Jazz" before you, including legendary Bebe Neuwirth, Chita Rivera, and Catherine Zeta Jones. Do you really want to be compared to them? I didn't think so. Likewise, I don't think you want to be compared to Kristin Chenoweth if you do "New Philosophy." You'll just end up being a poor man's version. So, don't do an overdone song.

2. Choose a song that is written by the same composer but from a different show. At the very least, do a song of the same type of musical theater genre. Singing something from Wicked is nothing like Damn Yankees, so skip on that show.

3. On that note, don't sing a song from a show that is currently on Broadway. No Rent, no Wicked, no Spelling Bee, no Les Mis, no Chorus Line, etc.

4. Sing a song that showcases your talents. Likewise, you want to show that you can play that type of a part. Lola is sexy and funny, so choose a song that shows that off. Singing "On My Own" from Les Mis will not show that you are funny or sexy. It will show off that you can play desperate and lonely.

Now, as far as suggestions go, I believe that Adler & Ross (composers of Damn Yankees) also wrote Pajama Game. I'm not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure. So, why don't you sing a song from Pajama Game? "I'm Not At All In Love" is an excellent choice in my opinion. It shows off a good mezzo belt and it's very sassy.

Have a good audition!

Lola is very seductive. I think that perhaps a torch song would work very well for Lola. Try "Sooner or Later" from Dick Tracy. If you put the right acting touches to it, it can be so sexy yet simple. "Don't Tell Mama" from Cabaret is also a good song to use. If you want something more uptempo, try "Bring on the Men" from Jekyll and Hyde. "Bring on the Men" is the song that is interchangeable in the show with "Good and Evil".

lola is a great character! sexy, naughty, and gets what she wants, i recommend these

"all that jazz" - chicago
"roxy" - chicago
"t i t s and a s s" - a chorus line
"show off" - the drowsy chaperone

good luck, damn yankees is a great show to be in, so break a leg at the audition!
