1. Baby turtles, like other baby animals, hide, and do it well. If you find a baby animal, you were really lucky.

2. You can improve your chances by getting a pair of tall waders and going out into still water (most pond turtles do not like moving water) and finding a likely place about 6' from the banks. Stand still and look for them floating just at the surface, usually in some duckweed or other vegetation.

3. If you are thinking about keeping one as a pet, PLEASE research it first- http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Articles/newhatchling.htm

4. It really IS illegal in many places to catch wild animals, although the laws can be very confusing and are rarely enforced unless it is happening on a large scale.

5. Rule of thumb- if you buy a baby turtle from a reliable breeder, you will get a MUCH better deal and a happier turtle out of it! There are many good reasons to not capture wild turtles- one is that they rarely survive the stress of capture.

You should NEVER take a wild animal out of the wild. Check your local petfinder, I bet you have a reptlile rescue that has some turtles. Check your local pet stores too.

They are probly soft shell snappers. they live under the substrate. i would go to a spot where there is alot of sand or mud and dig around. but agreeing with every one else its IS illeagal to take them out of there natural habbit. if i were you i would just find them for fun and have fun well it lasts if you really want a turtle go to the petstore and buy one! here is some info on them.

its illegal to take wild animals out of the wild unless you have permission to do so (like a falconeer) so I would tell your friends to put them back and go to the pet store where they can get a tame one.

it is illegal to catch and keep any wild caught animal - those people who are finding them should be reported .
