A family film is one that spans generations. The content and context is not specific to an age group. The movie will focus on common social themes that are consistent with social values.

Difficult content can be dealt with, although there is usually written into the script a portion that "raises the mood" of the audience after dealing with emotionally serious information.

A family film is one that, when the film is over, allows each member of the family to come together to discuss the movie and share their thoughts. A family film promotes unity rather than division in the unit.
