Sure, in a fairly simplistic way. Most academia are liberals. And most young people start off as Democrats before moving towards something more down the middle later in life. Also, because of this college towns become a magnet for liberals to move to in what otherwise might be conservative areas (i.e. Madison, WI or Austin, TX).

No.... college kids don't vote. If they did and David Brooks was right, Bush would have never won in 2000 or 2004.

I think you will find Democrats in a lot of places from huge metropolis to small farming towns. I don't think any community can be so definitively identified as one party.
