Because of the bacwards priorities of our society - I'd say #1 hit, they get a lot more recognition for less work.

NOBEL PRIZE
Nobel prize would mean that I am putting my talents to good use, and trying to do something to benefit humanity.
I'm not saying entertainers aren't important. But it's less likely to be a Justin Timberlake or Bon Jovi, and more likely to be Chumbawamba (Tubthumping), Snow (Informer), or Afro Man (Cuz I Got High) who appeared on the scene and were gone by the time you finished listening to on of their songs.
