Well, if you want it, you'll have to pay for it.
What do you do? Buy what you can afford or get in debt for a long time. Only you can make the decision.

Converibles are great fun to drive around town. They are not good at speeds over 45mph because with the wind anything that is not nailed down in the car can blow around. If you just use it to get around town and have a garage where you can leave the top down it would be great.

Ignore the replace top thing, you never have to and if someone wants to break into your car its far easier to break the window that try to cut into a heavy vinyl top with steel supports

Mercedes - depends on the model, year etc. Lot of people dont know the cost of the different models so you will look wealthy if driving a 2001+ model.

Buy a Toyota Solara SLE convertible..
Much, much better vehicle in regards to reliability, cost of repairs, and its half the price..
If your looking for a vehicle that pleases you and not trying to spend $ 40 - 60k so everyone else likes your car, the Solara is very nice..
I would take it and save the money for something that doesnt depreciate $8000 a year..
Thanks
Scott

Buy a second hand CLK. Hardtop convertibles like the new VW Eos, Volvo C70 and BMW 3 series may be a good alternatives.

Get a Mini Cooper S Cabriolet.

Tons for fun than a Mercedes, holds it's value better.

Convertibles are way overrated. The sun burns down on your head. They're easy to break into. The top has to be replaced every few years.
