Does it matter?

Pluto is a dwarf planet. It does not meet the three criteria for planets established by the IAU:

1. orbits the sun
2. is spherical
3. has cleared the area around its orbit

Pluto does not meet criteria 3, and so, is not a major planet. These criteria were established in 2006 to avoid greatly increasing the number of planets since several objects, including Charon, Eris, and Ceres, would have to have been elevated to major planet status if Pluto was allowed to stay on the list.

It really depends on how old you are. We were taught in school Pluto was a planet (and a Disney character). Now they say it is too small to be considered a plant.

Maybe in a few years they will decide that Earth isn't a planet either................... :-)

P.S I'm 46 years old

It used to be, but it isn't anymore. They say it's too small to be an official planet.
