i have read somewhere that you can give your baby water instead of formula when he wakes up at night.. his stomach is full, but screams "hungry' b/c of routine feeding... Has this worked for anyone? At what age? For how long?

A baby needs formula in the night. If you are only drinking your food you are hungry more often. My doctor told me a baby does not need water, only formula. Once they start eating baby foods at 6+ months then give water/juice with the food until then only formula. So that is what I did. He also said a baby does not overeat, if they are hungry feed them, even if it is in the middle of the night, they grow so fast they need the energy/nutrition.

your not supposed to give babies water
how old is your baby?
babies stomachs are very small & they eat every 2- 4 hours for several months most babies can not go through a whole night without feedings until they are 6-8 months old and some go longer
Babies need a lot of sleep
how do you know his tummy is full?
if it is just the routine he is wanting try a pacifier but most likely if a baby seems hungry he is ...feed him
there should be no "set" schedule for feeding babies
they will only eat when they are hungry & they will stop when they are full

You can start doing this at 6 months of age to re-train the babies tummy. Once a baby reached 6 months there is no nutritional need for nightime feedings, unless there is a medical condition. Most babies will not get up for water so they will start sleeping through the night after a few night of being given water, but dont give more than 4oz.

surely no longer. A 4 month previous isn't waking out of habit. They wake because of the fact they should devour and a pair of-thrice is well-known for that age. What precisely do you anticipate water to do? that is going to basically fill him up until the subsequent feed and then he would be conscious returned. At this age he nonetheless desires the food formula is offering for him. Plus, a new child decrease than 6 months in age does not want water and giving them too lots of it could deliver approximately water intoxication. so a protracted way as weaning is going, permit your infant come to a determination whilst that happens. you may't tension him to bypass and not using a feed at nighttime so that is basically going to rigidity the the two considered one of you out once you attempt it. maximum toddlers wean themselves from nightly feedings whilst they're good and able to.

Yes, I did this with my son at 4 months old. The first night, I tried straight water, and he still screamed. I finally gave in and gave him the formula. Second night, I added an extra ounce of water to the formula, and gradually increased it again until it was only water. Didn't work perfectly, but by night 5, I could get up and give him a pacifier to soothe him back to sleep. After that, I just had to let him figure out how to soothe himself back to sleep. Took only a few nights. Every child is different. Good luck!

How old is your baby? If Your baby cries and wakes up at night it is most likely because he or she is hungry. It says on the formula not even add extra water to it. It's important that your baby gets proper nutrition. I work as an infant caregiver at a daycare and we only give water to the children who are eating Baby Food.

I don't recommend water. They really shouldn't have alot water at such a young age. It's not good for them. An ounce is Ok, but not a bottle full. If he's waking up in the middle of the night, you should increase the amount he takes for his last bottle. Once you start feeding in the middle of the night, it becomes habit, and they will want it every night. Just give him more ounces if he is not satisfied.

NO! do NOT do that! babies get enough water in thier formula that they dont need plain water. plus water is thinner than when mixed with formula and can come back up and strangle the baby when they go back to sleep. babies need to be fed when they are hungry. sometimes every 3-4 hours. keeping a bottle from your baby can cause health complications and developmental delays. talk to your doctor with questions like this because i would hate to see something happen to your baby based on what somebody on here tells you to do.

you can give a baby water, but it should not be a substitute for a feeding.
if you give him anything at night he will wake up wanting something every night, what you give him is really not the issue.
what worked for me is the first time my kids slept through the night, night feedings were over. if they woke up during the night after that i would not feed them, i let them cry it out as long as they were safe and nothing was wrong. this worked all 4 of my kids slept through the night at around 2 weeks and only got up once or twice since then.

it worked for me, i know it doesn't work for everyone!

if he has not slept through the night yet, he probably needs the actual feeding!

I think it's the exact opposite. If he's old enough to sleep through the night without waking up hungry, he should be able to do it wihtout a bottle at all. Otherwise he is waking up because he is hungry, and will probably sleep longer and better if you feed him more. not less
