University of Phoenix is more convenient but more expensive. Someone I know is in UP, second year and drowning in debt plus struggling to pay for classes every several weeks. It's too late to stop now cuz of all the debt. So..just want to know if this effort will all be worth it in the end? in comparison to other highly recognized state universities?

Oh my gosh, no. An online university will never be as highly regarded as a traditional school with an established reputation and a BUILDING. I worked for a company that specialized in placing up-and-coming female executives with Fortune 500 companies. We threw away resumes from people with online degrees. I would say the only reason to get an online degree would be if you live in Siberia or if you are a teacher who gets a sizeable salary increase from a higher degree, regardless of where the degree comes from. Why is it too late for your friend to stop now? I think he/she should stop and sign up for classes at an inexpensive community college. The degree he/she earns will be worth more money and he/she won't owe even half as much at the end.

take it from me, those "online degrees" means nothing. I spent 2 years and $30,000 for a degree that is virtually useless. I transferred to another university and all of my credits didn't mean anything. Some big universities are now offering courses online, U. of Maryland, George Washington U.,etc. I don't think that it's fair to place someone's resume on the bottom because of what school they've attended, but I have experienced where someone with a degree from a well-known college has top-priority than myself. I have more experience but her degree means more than my experience. She make more money than I do but I have more time and knowledge under my belt. Don't waste your time on those quick degree scams. Some universities are recognized by the government but not all, and those that are shouldn't have a problem any place else.

Definitely not.

The U of Phoenix is a "for-profit" school and their main concern is making money. Students always come second.

A friend of mine started to "teach" there after he retired and he is constantly being criticized for being too hard on the students. By "too hard" apparently they mean "actually corrects mistakes on their papers and gives them some grades less than A"

The whole thing is basically a way to milk students of as much cash as possible.

Steer clear of all the "for-profit" schools and go to a real bricks and mortar school with a permanent faculty that is dedicated to helping you become an educated person.

Ask any HR person in any company....and they will tell you that a 'degree' from the 'University' of Phoenix is virtually worthless. If an HR person sees 'University' of Phoenix on any CV or resume it will immediately be placed at the bottom of the pile.

Why are you trying to steal my job? What gives you the right to push me out just because you have a degree? Have you got your own mop?- I suspect not! Well I have, which qualifies me for the job. Sorry, unless you were thinking of coming in as a trainee?

I don't know, but I hope so cause I go there. It is expensive, but I'm not paying for it so if you have to pay for it, then you may want to look into something less expensive.
