Most reality tv shows generate as much or more ad revenue than their scripted counterparts while successfully skirting having to pay union rates to their talent on both sides of the lens.

If you can turn a 15 to 1 profit on a series, why wouldn't you air it?

Reality TV is super cheap to produce. You generally only have 1 set, you don't have to pay huge salaries to the stars, you get contestants to sign papers saying that if they decapitate themselves the production is not responsible...And people watch them. If it fails you aren't out a lot of money, but if it's a success...

because they're cheap to make. since u don't have to hire real actors or come up with complicated storylines. plus the stations cater to the television audience. most people like reality tv shows. it's a good thing i'm not one of them.

Because people like to see other people make a fool out of themselves. Those are the people that stay on the show the longest because they can draw the most ratings.

Because networks don't have to hire expensive actor's and pay writers for scripts. It's a cheaper way to make a crappy TV show.

Yeah - it's because so many people watch them and they are cheap to make.

Real people are kind of interesting though, don't you think?
