Some people say that Michael Jordan had crazy hang time, and that vertical does not necessarily determine hang time. Is that true? If two players both have 36" vertical, will they have the same hang time?

So the only difference between VC, Michael Jordan, and LeBron against other high leapers is that they're lighter? Then why do their hang times seem to be so long?

Wait, so LeBron has longer hang time because he tucks his legs in? If it's that simple, why doesn't everybody do it?

man sure physics hang forever my hairy can i tell you halfway to landing is peak of vertical its true gravity rate essentially same all flaling bodies similar coefficient of friction maybe barkley so damn round take forever to fall you cannot beat gravity now takes longer to get to vertical max then also take longer to get back to floor but you are not hanging you are coming back to earth and land and say give me the damn ball im great i swear it shaq go away i dont need you my shots my team i make my own rings score big points i swear it youll see now give me the damn ball already its true and trade me no wait just kidding oops no i meant it traade me now or i hangtime your face true stuff

Physics say that once you reach the top of your jump you will begin to fall towards the ground. Everything falls at the same speed if there is no wind resistance. So if 2 people with 36 inch vertical leaps jumped, they would have the same hangtime unless one of them tucked their legs in and one didn't. If you don't believe me about the "everything falls at the same speed" then take a pen and a text book and drop push them off of a table at the same time. They will hit the ground at the same or near the same time. I believe this concept was proven by Galileo or some other old Greek dude. So to everyone who says that lighter people won't drop as fast....well they are wrong.

Also LeBron James weighs 260 pounds so I wouldn't exactly say he is one of the lighter players in the NBA, but he still gets pretty good hangtime.

It would be consistant with weight, if someone that is 300 pounds jumps as high as someone that is 200 pounds they come down faster, law of gravity. At the same time someone maybe able to jump further and not as high, which is what most people are talking about when mentioning hangtime, hangtime is not typically mentioned with regards to vertical leep. Watch when Lebron jumps, he seems to be in the air forever, he is jumping both high and covers more ground. Same can be said of Jordan, Kobe and VC.

Well, Im not sure. I can jump pretty high, my vertical has to be at least 36-40in. I also have a great amount of hangtime. Some guys who try to block me are back to the floor while Im still in the air. I think if you have a good vertical leap, you can bring that into your hangtime as I do.

I somehow remember in physics class we learned that there is a maximum hangtime for everyone, no matter your vertical. Although it may seem like some people hang longer than others, they probably have about the same time. At least I think I remember something like that.

No because Gerald Green,Boston Celtic 2007 Slam dunk champion Can jump higher that LeBron VERTICALLY, But King Jame clearly has the most hang time

No, hang time has more to do with body control, and how much you can do with the ball while suspended in air, you will have to go back a lil ways before you can find players with extraordinary hang time, Earl the Pearl Monroe had tremendous hang time along with the Ice Man George Gervin.

My personal opinion is some people can hang longer... Don't know why. MJ was able to do things with the ball and hang in the air alittle longer than most BUT I bet there were many players that had higher vertical than him.

nope the heavier you are the less time you will stay in the air, so say a 150pd man jumped 40 inches and a 330 pound man did the same 330 pound man would fall at a faster rate and hit the floor first.

everyone has a maximum hangtime but if you are heavier you hangtime will be lower.
